To Vaccinate or Not

According to the CDC, Omicron has been found in most states. There is no hard and fast evidence on how easily this new variant spreads, how sick it can make you , or how well vaccines can help to work against it. The CDC believes, it seems, that Omicron will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus. They think it is also likely that anyone with the Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms.

Covid-19 Omicron variant shots are stirring up quite a controversy. Just consider the overwhelming number of truck drivers currently protesting in Canada’s capital Ottawa against vaccine mandates required to cross into the United States.

Will vaccines make a difference? The CDC has hopes that they will. What we do know is that even with vaccines, breakthrough infections with those who are fully vaccinated are likely to occur. Now more than ever, those in the transportation industry need to be cautious while traveling. Wearing a mask, sanitizing, and maintaining a safe distance from others in public areas may help protect drivers from a number of health problems, including Omicron.
