Truck Parking Changes; ATRI Seeks Information On New Parking Information Systems

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is currently seeking the opinions of professional drivers regarding truck parking information systems. ATRI is a not-for-profit research organization that works to help the trucking industry. As part of their mission, ATRI is currently in need of drivers to participate in a new online survey regarding parking information systems that a number of states are developing to address truck parking.

According to ATRI, all responses are strictly confidential. Drivers will not have to release any of their personal or organization information. There are 22 questions in total. ATRI has been researching truck parking for over 20 years. For those willing to participate, the survey can be accessed online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Truck-Pkg-Info-Systems.

Companies such as Love’s Travel Stop have been working to provide additional truck parking throughout the United States. In January 2019, Love's announced it would be adding thousands of new truck parking spaces and 40 new locations. As part of that expansion, the company just announced a new store opening that is expected to bring 60 New Jobs and 103 Truck Parking Spaces to Northern California. The company also re-opened a travel stop on Interstate 20 in Mississippi in March 2019 and they are refreshing 71 truck parking spaces at that location. This is just the beginning of the company's overall expansion.

Other initiatives that are helping to identify parking space include a grant award from The Federal Highway Administration to the Texas Department of Transportation for nearly $7 million to fund a truck parking availability system along Interstate 10 in four states. According to a news article in Transport Topics and a twitter post from the Federal Highway Administration, this "will provide truck drivers and dispatchers real-time truck parking information at 37 locations along I-10 from California to Texas."
