Millis Transfer Driver Discusses Driver Amenities in Transport Topics Interview

Millis Transfer driver Joseph Mullis was recently quoted in the Transport Topics column “Tuned In.” The article, which is entitled, “Fleets Credit In-Cab Satellite TV With Boosting Driver Satisfaction,” discusses the benefits of Satellite Television for the trucking industry.

Joseph says he enjoys having access to his favorite programs when traveling. To him, it is nice to be able to take a shower and then sit back and watch TV. He enjoys not having to rely on truck stops for entertainment. “At a truck stop,” he says, “there’s really not a lot to do.”

He is thankful that drivers at Millis Transfer have access to DVRs. For Joseph, that means he can record his favorite shows and watch them when it is convenient for his schedule. He says having perks like satellite television and DVRs make Millis Transfer one of the most driver friendly companies in the industry. “That’s one of the reasons I’ve been here for 16 years,” he told Transport Topics.

Not every trucking company offers drivers the option of Satellite Television, but it is becoming an important part of the driver amenity package. Drivers are more likely, according to those interviewed in Transport Topics, to work for and stay with a company that offers benefits like in-cab television options.

At Millis Transfer, we’re always working to enhance driver quality of life. Adding Satellite Television has been well received. It has some important benefits, too. And those benefits depend entirely on the driver and what they choose to watch. For instance, research on television viewing habits highlights a number of pertinent findings. A variety of programs help to educate viewers on everything from cooking to remodeling. It is also believed that TV can help with feelings of isolation.

In a study conducted by the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, it was found “that people who watch a favorite TV show report feeling less lonely during the show.” Television also helps to expand culture by highlighting people and places that viewers have never seen in real life. Watching a program on a regular basis can also make an audience member part of a subculture, where a program, like a football game, brings groups together to watch and debate events they are viewing.

The benefits of having satellite television do not end there. TV has been shown to have mood elevating abilities. A lot of people laugh when they watch it. It can also help to boost motivation. A study from the University of Rochester found that some people feel more energetic after watching nature scenes. TV can also boost work-outs and help to educate viewers on how to maintain their health.

The health and well-being of our drivers matter to us. That is just one more reason we’re working to provide amenity packages that not only add to driver entertainment options, but help to provide a better quality of life for drivers.
